This song came to me when I was working in Seattle at St Paul Parish. I was idealistically trying to help our youth group to place a little more importance to the status of God in the world. Cars meant a lot as they would to any 16 or 17 year old, and looks, friends, and possessions all lined up as a little more important than God. I think we had a youth group meeting where we looked at Philippians 2 and it didn’t flop.
I drove up to the Sandpoint Park in North Seattle and sat on the walls of the park and wrote and sang and the song showed up. At a time in Portland volunteering at the Catholic Radio Station I picked up the phone and the person on the other end asked if we could play “Jesus Christ is Lord” by David Firth. I started laughing. So I know the song has been requested once.
