Please Forgive Me is a very personal song which was primarily written to Linda. It is long in coming yet quickly developed.
I hesitate to be as transparent with the story behind Please Forgive Me because while it was written to Linda, it could apply to many of my family members and friends who, over the years experienced my lack of judgement, consideration and love, deserve to hear it.
Why now? Basically, I’ve matured enough to recognize the lingering, habitual bad habits of 30 years of unchecked Bipolar Disorder. Medication, years of counseling, and, unconditional support by family and friends couldn’t break a few deeply rooted distortions. It took time and personal growth to overcome.
I am, by no means, free. I am, by all means, sorry.
I am David’s oldest daughter, (and greatest fan). To take ownership, to apologize, to expose your weakness and temptations, to ask for forgiveness, to respect those you love, to be raw and real with a contrite heart and soul…this, I say with Love and Thanksgiving, is the man I call dad. Honestly brings freedom. I love you, dad. Thank you for sharing with me.
