This is unfortunate but true; I have no recollection of writing Speak Lord I Am Listening.  I know it was written between 1980 and 1981.  I know it was written in my home in Portland.  I remember it being mid-afternoon and I remember reading a book by Fr John Powell, SJ called “Unconditional Love” at the time.  Fr Powell was telling a story in his book about a teen who was dying of cancer and he and the teen were talking about God speaking through his suffering; a voice of love and consolation but a voice that could not be heard with just the ear, but only in the heart.

This is unusual for me not to remember anything about the origin of a song because I hold so much value in the story behind; well, everything.  But I have no memory of writing it.  And further, I don’t recall why I wanted it recorded.
